Iva Rinčić (Rijeka, 1975) graduated in 2000 in Sociology and Croatian Culture from the Department of Croatian Studies at the University of Zagreb and defended her master’s thesis in 2005 at the Faculty of Political Sciences (‘The Problem of Bioethical Responsibility in Genetics: Practice in Croatia and Europe’). She defended her PhD thesis ‘Theoretical Strongholds, Achievements and Perspectives of Bioethical Institutionalisation in the European Union’ in 2010 at the Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb. Since June 2001, she has been working at the Department of Social Sciences and Medical Humanities of the Rijeka University Faculty of Medicine (since 2017 as Associate Professor), and since 2014, also at the Department of Public Health of the University of Rijeka Faculty of Health Studies. She has participated at more than fifty Croatian and international conferences, published approximately fifty scientific and professional articles, and also five books on bioethics. She is a member of the editorial boards of several journals (Filozofska istraživanja, Synthesis Philosophica, Jahr – European Journal of Bioethics) and an associate on several Croatian and international projects. From 2013 to 2021, she was Director of the University of Rijeka Foundation, and from 2017 to2021, a member of the National Council for the Scientific Area of Humanities. Since 2019, she leads the ‘Urban Bioethics’ project (University of Rijeka). Since 2021, she is a member of the County Parliament of the Primorsko-Goranska County, as well as a member of the Rijeka City Council.
